Christmas Giveaway & A Ghost of Christmas Past
Me, a Socialist?
Kelsey tells me that if I want to have a successful website I have to give free stuff away. Feel the Bern. I am starting to question why anyone starts a blog in the first place. Bernie Sanders would applaud me for what I’m doing. Actually after looking at how much presidential contenders give away to charity it seems that they are mostly takers not givers. Maybe Bernie will sign up for my Christmas Giveaway.
What am I giving away you may ask? Is this going to be like one of those annoying recipe blogs that make you read to the end before you figure out what the recipe is…..?
What’s the Catch?
All you have to do is like my Facebook Page or subscribe to my blog below for your shot at some amazing gifts. If you do both you have double the chance. This sounds like it should be illegal for some reason. Or maybe it just seems sad. I feel like Richy Rich trying to buy friendships. This sounds like something Trump would do.
A Ghost of Christmas Past
I would call myself an average gift giver. Sometimes I’m great. Sometimes I’m lousy. No Christmas will be quite as memorable as the first one Kelsey and I had together.
We got married in late July of 2007 and one week later I whisked her off to Wisconsin to start medical school. It still sounds romantic to me. The thought still makes Kelsey cry. After a long first semester of medical school I was ready for a break and Kelsey was excited to see her family again. We flew back to Montana and got in at midnight, the night before Christmas Eve. Unfortunately our luggage, which contained our Christmas presents, didn’t make it.
Money was tight. I honestly don’t remember what I had bought to give to Kelsey that year. It didn’t matter anyways. Our bags were lost. I woke up early on Christmas Eve to head to the store. I was determined, despite being broke, to get something nice for Kelsey that year.
On Christmas morning we sat around my in-laws living room and opened our Christmas presents. I had three gifts for Kelsey to open. As she opened her Christmas presents I could see tears fill her eyes. These were not tears of joy. They were tears of “I hope I don’t have to go back to Wisconsin…Why is my sister getting so many presents?…I made a mistake by marrying David.”
Curious what I got her?
- Minnie Mouse Fishing Pole- Why would I ever buy a fishing pole for my young bride? I actually thought it was a cool gift at the time. I envisioned going camping, fishing, and spending some quality time with Kelsey once the winter ended.
- Matches- We were fortunate to get one of those Yankee Candles for our wedding. I think it was vanilla flavor. Maybe it was Chocolate Chip Cookie flavor. Regardless, the lighter we had at home had just run out of fluid and we needed a new one. At the store the lighters cost $15 dollars. The matches were less. I didn’t want to be cheap so I went with the Strike Anywhere variety instead of the Strike on Box matches. I still remember my brother in law Christopher looking at me strangely after Kelsey opened her present and asking me, “Why would you get her matches?”
- Almond Roca- Because who doesn’t like Almond Roca?
Lessons Learned
- Marriage is tough
- Don’t lose your luggage
- Buy returnable gifts
Although she didn’t speak to me on the flight home Kelsey did return to Wisconsin with me. The wife of a pauper. My gift giving has improved and our marriage has survived. Our first Christmas will always be memorable.
So what is the Christmas Giveaway from GolferMD?
- A Micke Mouse Fishing Pole (I can’t find a Minnie Mouse one)
- Matches (Strike Anywheres, not the cheap Strike on the Box kind)
- Almond Roca
Am I serious? Yes. Will anyone sign up? Doubt it. Fortunately these gifts will come with a gift receipt. You can return them for the $30 they cost me, or build your own memories with the gifts given.

I need assistance finding an indoor putting surface and possibly an indoor driving net for my young golfer. He really wants to go golfing right now and is playing in the house with real clubs and balls.
