Ring in the New Year

“Don’t take your presents the wrong way” Kelsey told me as I reached for my stocking. Intrigued by her request I smiled and grabbed my first gift. Still, I was more excited for Kelsey to open her gifts then for me to open mine. After 9 months of searching, Kelsey’s wedding ring was nowhere to be found. Presumed to be flushed down the toilet by our then 9 month old daughter, we had given up hope of ever finding it. Kelsey’s Christmas gift, stuffed deep in her stocking, was going to be the perfect way to ring in the New Year.

The Wrong Way

I opened my first gift. A body fat monitor. I laughed as I opened my second gift: an 8 week subscription to meet with a dietician/fitness expert. I now know what she meant by “don’t take your presents the wrong way.”

My Minnesota days are never too far from my mind. I loved both gifts. I am just curious how this would have played out if I had gotten her those gifts instead?

Don’t worry. I won’t be uploading my before and after photos for you to see.

The 2 ? ? Surprise

After watching the kids open their presents Kelsey finally got to the last present in her stocking:

Her reaction at the stunning 2 carat display before her was worth it, “Where did you get this!? It’s beautiful!” I chose not to reply. “Did you get this on Amazon?” she asked. ?.

Unfortunately the ring didn’t fit. Fortunately the retailer I bought this 2 carat ring from takes returns pretty easily. Even more amazing is that despite refunding me my money they said we could keep the ring.

They must have been worried that such a valuable ring would get lost in the mail.

The Missing Ring

Kelsey’s wedding ring conveniently got misplaced in April of 2020, just a few weeks before the national debut of GolferMD.com. She thought it would be an easy way of getting an upgraded rock once all the endorsements came rolling in. Unfortunately for her the fame and fortune never materialized.

She lamented to my brother in law the day after Christmas about her lost wedding ring and the replacement I had given her. He said that someone found a ring at their church building a few months back. Kelsey got excited. He showed her a picture of the ring. It wasn’t hers. We both new it would have been too good to be true. Still she had an oversized 2 carat ring at home.

The Prodigal Ring

At 10pm that night our niece was cleaning out her jewelry box. She found a ring she never had seen before and sent Kelsey a text. Kelsey called her immediately, “THAT’S MY RING”. A Christmas Miracle! It was lost and it was found. The prodigal ring had returned.

That’s a pretty romantic engagement picture of the two of us. I bought the yellow shirt from Holister. That was the cool place to shop back when I was in college.

Ring in the New Year

Despite the challenges of the year, 2020 was great to our family. It was exciting for GolferMD.com to be featured on national TV. I got to play at Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits, and many other amazing golf courses. Callaway sent me a set of golf clubs! I didn’t get COVID (that I’m aware of at least) despite being around it constantly. I went on Tower of Terror and survived. Being home more allowed me to spend a lot more time with my kids. Kelsey got pregnant again. We found Kelsey’s ring.

Despite the successes of 2020 it’s always fun to ring in a new year. I wish you a happy 2021 and a slightly less pudgy one for me.
